Late 1930's Silvertone Radio Repair Journal

I cannot recall the exact model of this Silvertone but if I find out I
will post it. It needed new capacitors, plus some wiring repairs. The
6F5 tube and tuning eye also needed to be replaced, and we installed a
new audio output transformer salvaged from a Silvertone stereo receiver
chassis, plus a new filter choke and permanent magnet speaker. Please
click the pictures for larger views.

One problem was that an excessive amount of solder was used on a
previous repair job, shorting out the tuning capacitor. We used a
solder wick to remove the old stuff and re-did the wiring.

Testing the Silvertone chassis with the test output transformer and
speaker.

Testing the chassis (another view).

Finished chassis, underside.

Speaker, output transformer, and filter choke installed in cabinet. We
were able to salvage a good output transformer from a junked Silvertone
tube stereo receiver.

New tuning eye tube installed.

Chassis re-installed in cabinet.

Finished Silvertone. The owners are going to finish the cabinet and
grille cloth repairs.
